I am very excited to be implementing a Learning Studio in my school. I believe it will help close the digital divide by enabling access to information and resources and allowing students to learn through active engagement in the 21st century curriculum. I am thrilled because it will help me educate children to realize their potential and contribute in a connected global society. My students love making and implementing a Learning Studio will provide my students with resources.
A Learning Studio will help my students to be creators not just consumers. It will help me prepare my students with 21st century skills. It will help my students to learn to problem solve. It will help them to learn how to persevere when they fail. It will help them learn to collaborated and communicate in this global world.
The technology will support powerful learning by allowing students to construct their own knowledge to facilitate deep learning and true understanding. A Learning Studio will help create an environment that engages learning. It will help the classroom be a place that is led by creativity and curiosity. It will create more opportunities for my students to develop confidence, creative and interests in learning while at the same time preparing them to be technologically literate and responsible citizens.
I am looking forward to sharing what I learn through this experience with others. The Learning Studio will help me mentor and demonstrate to other educators and families about the importance of powerful learning through technology. I am honored to be chosen by my school district to implement a Learning Studio.

Goals
I plan to embed the technology into everyday learning in my class. I also foresee the Learning Studio as becoming a very powerful addition to my classroom’s makerspace.
I also what to use it to engage students outside of my classroom. I plan to work with my district’s afterschool club to provide access and opportunities to at risk students.
Another vision I have is to use the Learning Studio to increase attendance. I recently complete a classroom research project where I was able to improve attendance through technology and making (https://www.edsurge.com/news/2016-02-11-how-an-alaska-teacher-improved-student-attendance-with-minecraft). I plan to take my findings to the next level and start a before school program where students can use the technology which will help motivate them to attend and be on time for school.
I would also like to use the Learning Studio to work with the local tribe and their youth programs to find ways to preserve and carry on the Tlingit culture. A year of go I worked with the local tribe to create a traditional Tlingit village in Minecraft. It was amazing to see how technology can help students connect students with the past. A Learning Studio will take projects like this to the next level.
I foresee the Learning Studio as being a platform to educate, mentor and demonstrate to educators, families and others about the powerful learning that can exist with rich technology based learning. I have always been passionate about growing and helping others to grow.
A Learning Studio provides endless opportunities and possibilities.

Technology in the Classrooom
As an elementary teacher, I am always looking for ways to incorporate technology into my classrooms. Technology is shaping the way teachers teach and students learn. I use technology as a tool to enrich and support daily content learning. I use it to teach critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication. I use it to teach informational, media and technology literacy. I use it to teach flexibility, balance, initiative, social skills, productivity, and leadership. I use it to teach my students to be responsible citizens. I use it to prepare students for their future. Technology is not an option in education today. We have to prepare students for jobs that haven’t even been created yet which requires thinking outside of the box.
We must educate those around us about any misconceptions they may have about 21st century learning. They need to understand that technology, making and gaming are tools that can be used to help students learn. Participating in specials about technology education is one of the ways I try to show how technology can be used to facilitate learning. In my class I support a strong technology embedded education program based on national and state technology standards.
